The church was build under the 12:th centuary. It is one of the oldest churches in Sweden. It was the church for the preast in folklandet Fj�rdhundraland. Later it became a church for V�rfrukyrka socken . Year 1548 it became city church of Enk�ping.

Snorri Sturluson relates that Tiundaland was the richest and most fertile region of Sweden where was the seat of the Swedish kings at Uppsala, the Swedish Archbishopric and from which Uppsala �d had taken its name. All the Swedish lawspeakers were subordinate to the one of Tiundaland.
